Gentoo

I have read reviews about Gentoo linux
on how fast it is.
Also the package management is said to be superb

Has anyone tried it?
I would gladly try it but my geforce 2 just gave up on me !
Just when i was configuring the x server on my new "Debian" !
Well i supose now that i got the excuse, it is time for upgrade !!->Geforce 3!

Any commnets about Gentoo ?

I'm using Gentoo right now and I must say that it's the best distribution I've used so far. The package management system hasn't give me any problems whatsoever. It calculates dependencies for you, etc. somewhat similar to the way Debian's apt-get handles dependencies but it uses source code instead of binaries, so everything is compiled depending on your achitecure, which speeds things up quite a bit. + I too have a GeForce 2 card and it's working perfectly. By the way, I think you could probably find the answer of all your questions over at http://forums.gentoo.org. They helped me out considerably when I was having problems.

When you install it make sure you got enough space available on your partition.Mozilla needs about 600 megs of diskspace to compile' openoffice about 2,5 gigs.

Unfortunately, this is true and this is probably one of Gentoo's least likeable features. However, you can download OpenOffice as a binary instead of compiling it from source. Furthermore, once you compile anything, you can store it as a binary (compile using "emerge -b"). Once you have done this, if you want to re-install the package on install it on another machine, you can use the binaries that you have already compiled instead of re-compiling.
