GENTOO = anti america

whis is it on the gentoo site they can cut up americans on a daily basis but if you try to reply with a pro american thread they BANN you from the forums?
i guess freedom of speech only works one way there!
avoid that distro of linux!

False statement. All BBS have guidelines that you probably didn't take the time to read when you joined the forum. It is one of the best forums I monitor/post on.

Try using political BBS for political stuff, Gentoo BBS for Gentoo related stuff.

The same goes for any BBS or USENET group.

I suggest a google search for netiquette and reading up on that.

comprookie2000 01-21-2005 07:02 PM

Are you fancypiper there?

greenmeanie 01-21-2005 07:03 PM

its full of anti america propaganda! and no post pro america because they wont let you!

they should let everyone back in and get rid of the OTW section and do what the do best GENTOO.

In the greater scheme of things who really cares? It's their site they can do whatever it is they feel like, you don't like them, their ethics or their product then don't use it simple as that.

Yes, but I never have used it for anything but Gentoo support. I don't monitor OTW.

I believe in freedom of speech, but not in freedom to be forced to hear or read something.

They still have to give it away, no matter who in the world wants it, even OBL.

The first post I saw in that forum is "OTW will be deleted soon", so your wish may become true, greenmeanie.

Name calling is a no-no in debates, it indicates you have no facts to present. I think there is some principle that refers to the first person that mentions Natzi, loses the debate.

Thanks for the info.

I think i am going to change my distro to GENTOO now.

fancypiper 01-22-2005 12:22 AM

Gentoo will give you confidence in the CLUE (Command Line User Environment) and help you learn Linux because you control everything.

Don't forget to comment your config files when you do them if you have a perfect memory like mine.

If it weren't for my RAM and hard drives, I would have absolutely no memory.....

Remember, America is the country everyone hates until something happens and they want money and aid from us. But, it find it amuse there was a post talking about how americans hate Communists, LOL. Even communist country are not TRULEY communist.

If you don't like what there posting just ignore it or go to another forum.

ghazz 01-26-2005 07:43 AM

I cannot condemn a distro just because of viewpoints of a forum/person or propaganda from that source. It becomes a problem when malicious code is created to crash/ruin our systems and/or steal information that is personal. Every country has its enemies AND friends. If the forum upsets you, as has been said by many, avoid it. It is your choice to either let it bother you or let it pass.

If you wanted to be more constructive about this post, I would have left a link to the forum and let the LQ forum readers discuss.

At any rate, I concur with DJ P@CkMaN:

When I last visited Gentoo OT a few days ago, I saw what looked to be a fairly even distribution of ideas. While there was a *little* anti-Americanism, it was nowhere near as virulent as some sites I visit.

I don't worry much about the politics of a site's Off Topic section. As long as the product they provide is quality, that's what counts. If I disagree with the prevailing sentiment in OT, and I don't want to be banned for disrupting their fanatasies, I just avoid the OT. :)

I believe that Gentoo has the BEST forum of any distro. 99% of the time the only places I need to go when I have something I need to look up are here, there, and the man pages. Just because you read one post that you didn't agree with, you should not bash an entire distro/forum. Viva la Gentoo!!! ;)
