Error Installing Open Office on Gentoo
i enter:
emerge openoffice
then I get:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
{standard input}: Assembler messages:
{standard input}:209: Error: suffix or operands invalid for 'movd'
dmake: Error code 1, while making '../../../../unxlngi4.pro/slo/jdmainct.obj'
---* TG_SLO.MK *--
dmake: Error code 255, while making './unxlngi4.pro/misc/build/so_built_jpeg'
---* TG_SLO.MK *--
ERROR: Error 65280 occured while making /var/tmp/portage/openoffice-1.1.0/work/oo_1.1_src/jpeg
!!! ERROR: app-office/openoffice-1.1.0 failed.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 453, Exitcode 1
!!! Build failed!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have enough disk space to compile and install. I have no idea what to do from here to circumvent the error. Help is greatly appreciated.
Joe

Check your compiler flags.Openoffice is a touchy build. You can also use openoffice-bin.

But just in case this does not work out, can you tell me where I can find a page to tell me how to set my cflags in order to successfully compile open office?

Nothing to do with idiocy - gentoo needs some system to get a overlook for the available packages asap.I use kportage for it but don't try to emerge anything with it - buggy as hell.
I compiled openoffice 1.0.something and 1.1.0 fine with '-march=athlon-xp -O2 -pipe' but the whole system is compiled that way.

Everyone seems to be having problems with the OpenOffice 1.1.0 build. I refused to download the binary because I'd already downloaded near 200Mb of source and wasn't about to download another 100Mb just to get OO working. In the end, my problem was caused by the xargs environment being too small which was fixed my a minor edit to the findutils source (a more elegant solution was later rolled into the findutils ebuild) and apart from a slightly unstable kernel, OO compiled fine after that. As there are a number of different problems effecting the OOo 1.1.0-r1 build my suggestion would be to search the forums fopr threads on this topic and try the various solutions that have been posted and seeing which one works for you. I wouldn't recommend downloading the binary if you already have the source, it's a waste of time and bandwidth.

Oh - heck forgot one thing.
Make sure you got enough space in your portage tmpdir when you build it.About 2 gig should do.
