ELive
I'm researching which linux distro will be best to use on a laptop. I've allready tried suse and found it to bulky and slow. I had a look on distrowatch.com and found a new distro called elive .. it looks like a pretty decent one and they seem to have worked all the bugs out of it.. I'm gonna try to download it and see how I go .. but I wondered if anyone could tell me if they've heard anything bad about it before I go ahead and install it.. I'm new to linux and the reviews say its a very simple distro thats easy to understand .. I'll only be using it as a dual boot on my laptop.. any thoughts ... suggestions.. I'm all ears.

I tried it on my desktop and it did not support my internet or sound. I have pretty common hardware and could not get those things to work. Creative ES1370 soundcard (ensoniq), SIS 900 network onboard (again never had a problem, common).

Did you think about Ubuntu already?
It's a distro for professional and new Linxu users.
Give it a try - you will not regret it...

SUSE Linux 10 is an excellent distro. If you are happy with it and everything is working, there is not need to install Ubuntu (IMHO).

Try taking a look at www.zenwalk.org distro. It's a very nice one based on slackware and you can get a basic core version or a full install version. The full version installs mostly one app for each tasks.
Check it out!

elive is kinda addictive
I've been running Elive for about 2 weeks now, and while my "wonderful" 64 bit processor is causing a bit of a headache, Elive and E17 in general have me hooked. It is ridiculously fast, and boot times are fast too...it just feels more natural to me than KDE/Gnome/most others.
