Hi, I'm new to this thread and I haven't seen this problem addressed (maybe I'm the only one who has this trouble.) I have Mandrake 8.1 installed on a separate partition from my Windows 98se (yes, I still have to use it unfortunately). I have a dual boot going on, but by default, if I don't do anything in the first five seconds, it boots into Mandrake (you know, that blue screen w/ the booting options). How do I change this so that it will boot into Windows by default?
Yes, I know about WINE, but I haven't been able to get that configured or even working yet, so until then, I'll have to use Windows for some things I can't do in Linux.
If you are using LILO, open your /etc/lilo.conf and find what the label for your windows parition is. Then add a line before the images that says "default=<windows label here>". Then as root, run /sbin/lilo
Won't need to add it cause it'll already be there and it'll say the mandrake image..also you can set the time frame on how long it waits if that would be more helpful..think its about the fifth line down..

i thought he doesn't want to load mandrake by default, so he would have to change the default boot image...
The default line may or may not be there already. If it's not, lilo will boot the first image on the list as the default. Rather than reorganizing the list, it's better to just add the line if it's not already there (and it wasn't on any of my set ups).
Out of curiosity..what was your distro when you didn't see the default line..its wasnt lfs was it..what lilo do when there is no default line? first in the list or pack a sad..
