Distro LiveCD that loads entirely to ram.

Any one know of a live cd that loads entirely to the RAM so that the CD is accessable.

AFAIK, there isn't any that will let you unmount/eject the cd.

There are, however, several floppy-based distros that will still leave your cdrom accessible.

Get a external or second IDE CDRom :)

or as Gort32 said, use floppy-based one.

Have a look at Beatrix - it's a small Gnome based livecd that can be loaded entirely into RAM. I don't know whether it will let you then eject the CD, but I think it's worth trying.

Edit: that is, unless you want the cdrom drive for some multi-media type of access... in which case Beatrix won't do you much good because it doesn't have any multi-media applications! If that's what you had in mind, you could try Movix instead.

I have just tried Damn Small Linux and at the boot screen pressed F2 for further boot options and chose "to ram" hit enter waited for DSL to load. When it finished loading I ejected DSL disc and replaced it with an audio CD.From the DSL menus>Apps>Sound/Mpeg/VoIp>XMMS>XMMS Play CD.Works fine on my machine so far as I listen to some music as I type this reply.

Check out the DSL site for more info on this.

DSL

Mandrakemove, mandrakes live cd can also be removed so you can use the cd drive for something else, while Mandrakemove is still running on your computer.

If he only need that distro to watch dvd's, cd's or listen to music try Geexbox. very cool and little (~8mb) distro based on mplayer with cute UI and you can control it with remote control. It loads entirely in to ram and lets you to swap cd's. But it dosen't do anything more than multimedia. Really cool thing, I was surprised when discovered it for the firs time. You do not have to do ANYTHING all devices are configured at boot up, no tuning after boot needed. Just burn an iso and run! :D

Oh I almost forgot:
A link http://www.geexbox.org/en/index.html !

How much RAM do you have?
Do you have any swap partition?
