Question Disappearing desktop

I had Red Hat 9.0 set up nicely with a Bluecurve desktop, and all my favourite icons laid out on the bottom bar. Then I installed a graphics driver, but had to uninstall the rpm because of a compatability problem.

Now the Bluecurve screen has disappeared, replaced by a plain blue screen (like Windows BSOD?) with "Applications" and "Actions" on the top bar, no bottom bar, and no icons. I cannot find a way to restore the original setup

What have I done? How can I restore the original desktop?

all i can think is that maybe you were logged in as root to install the graphics, made the changes (under root) then logged back in as normal user ???

or you deleted the settings from your home directory.
