Debian: WMaker won't start from x-window-manager

Hey. I've configured x-session-manager to start xdm instead of kdm or gdm, but WindowMaker won't start on top of it, either after log-on, or from a fresh startx, even with x-window-manager pointing to it. I'm running it right now by adding an implicit exec wmaker to /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc but I'd rather do it though the alternatives system. Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same problem and have a thread "Controlling startx WM selection in Debian Woody" on this forum about it. I think you'll find it works if you execute "xinit wmaker" instead of "startx", but it's not the "right" solution.

Maybe I'm just spoiled by Slackware's simple "xwmconfig" program.

You should probably just make a ~/.xsession
with the 'exec wmaker' code (and any other stuff you want to start with X). .xsession works just like .xinitrc, but its parsed whether you 'startx' or use a gui login.
