Damn Vulnerable Linux VirtualBox Installation Problem

Hi all,

I've been messing around with Backtrack for a while now and I've used it against a bunch of different OS's, but Damn Vulnerable Linux seems like it would offer a lot more substance since it's made specifically for attacking.

The problem I'm having is trying to install DVL in VirtualBox. It's easy enough to get up and running from the Live ISO image, but it's pretty sluggish running it that way, and installing it to a virtual hard drive should improve performance dramatically.

I partition the virtual hard drive with cfdisk, both a Linux partition flagged as bootable and a Linux Swap partition.

I then go ahead and format the Linux partition (mkext2fs) and the Linux Swap partition (mkswap).

Then I use the Backtrack Installer that's included with DVL which installs everything to the virtual drive. This process takes almost an hour and I confirmed the data is actually written to the hard drive.

The problem is that after all of this, DVL won't boot. VirtualBox gives a "Fatal: No bootable media found!" or something along those lines, and I have no idea why.

Just to make sure I didn't screw up somewhere, I've tried deleting everything and doing the whole process over twice. Still, no luck.

Any ideas are welcome.

Thanks,
Matt
