Custom OS design for ARM based devices such as an iPod or PDA

I know that this is over my head a little bit... To be honest a lot but I met with someintetersint projects in the last couple days and I was just wandering if it was really difficult to write an OS that is based on uCLinux kernel and busybox?
Once I created my linux distro in an emulator and I can run it (QEmu) is it possible to install it to an IPod or PDA or even a Cell Phone? Eg: Nokia 6600 or something similar that is already running Symbian OS or some kind of advanced OS.

Why not start by looking at the many distributions that already exist for mobile devices? For the iPod. Many cell phones are now coming with Linux; check LinuxDevices.
