Cups no longer works after after AntiX update
This is really a sequel to my earlier post. AntiX is now fully updated but the update has savaged cups. Which is a particular nuisance as this is currently my only working printer
I give the lp command, the job goes into the queue, and that's it. No actual printing takes place.
Here is what I found in the cups error log:
Code:
W [22/Mar/2017:17:11:19 +0000] CreateProfile failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown:The name org.freedesktop.ColorManager was not provided by any .service files
W [22/Mar/2017:17:11:19 +0000] CreateDevice failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown:The name org.freedesktop.ColorManager was not provided by any .service files
E [22/Mar/2017:17:19:05 +0000] [Job 15] Stopping unresponsive job.
E [22/Mar/2017:17:22:42 +0000] [Client 15] Returning IPP client-error-not-possible for Cancel-Job (ipp://localhost/jobs/1) from localhost
W [22/Mar/2017:17:27:30 +0000] CreateProfile failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown:The name org.freedesktop.ColorManager was not provided by any .service files
W [22/Mar/2017:17:27:30 +0000] CreateProfile failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown:The name org.freedesktop.ColorManager was not provided by any .service files
W [22/Mar/2017:17:27:30 +0000] CreateDevice failed: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown:The name org.freedesktop.ColorManager was not provided by any .service files
E [22/Mar/2017:17:44:34 +0000] [Client 16] Returning IPP client-error-not-possible for Cancel-Job (ipp://localhost/jobs/20) from localhost
Actually that reference to .service files rings a bell for me. .service files are a systemd thing. Can it be that my update downloaded the wrong cups package because of the keyring problem? Should I update it again? Will it let me?

I decided to try reinstalling cups. I ran apt-get clean to ensure that any reinstallation would be from the web and not the cache. Then I removed cups (hplip and hp-cups-driver went with it). I ran apt-get install cups and saw that the download came from daveserver's nosystemd repo. So far so good! I reinstalled the other two packages and tried again. It still doesn't work, so maybe the problem is in one of cups's dependent libraries. There are rather a lot of them.
I'll try again tomorrow, this time doing an autoremove between removing and reinstalling cups so that I can get fresh downloads of all the dependencies. Fortunately in the meantime I have got my downstairs printer to work (it just needed fresh cartridges) so this is no longer so urgent. All the same, I hate to get stuck in a situation I don't understand.

OK, update. Today I tried 2 experiments.
1) Removed cups, autocleaned all dependencies, then reinstalled. Everything came down fresh from the web, a lot of the packages in nosystemd versions. Cups still didn't work. So that's not the problem.
2) Switched log level in cupsd.conf from warn to debug and tried again. I'm attaching the resultant log. I'm pretty certain now that those messages about .service files are irrelevant to the problem. According to the new logs, cups uses defaults to cover those. And there's a lot of cups output after these messages. Unfortunately I can't understand it!
I think now that this is a problem with cups itself and nothing to do with AntiX. Maybe someone can look at the log and tell me what it means, or else suggest some more tests.
