connect to network with knoppix

Ok, I give up trying to figure this out myself. In slackware it's as simple as /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 restart or dhcpcd eth0 or so, and you got an IP address from a DHCP server.

I tried service xxxx restart with everything in /etc/init.d that looked like it might do it, but nothing. dhclient -v complains 'no domain-name-servers option' but I can see nothing in the man page that will get it to ignore DNS, as I have no need for DNS. I just want to connect to a local network and copy files with NFS.

For some bizarre reason, there doesn't seem to be a tutorial on how to do this simple thing with knoppix. So, here I am asking.

I've been using Knoppix releases (on CD or DVD) for rescue operations for over a decade. They have always brought network up automatically using DHCP. Which Knoppix are you working with?

Knoppix is a Debian re-mix. Debian network configuration, or use the networking chapter in the reference manual.

I created a dhclient.conf with the contents: "supersede domain-name-servers 192.168.56.100" (that being the ip of my dhcp server) ran dhclient -v -cf dhclient.conf and it works. Thanks.
