OK, thanks for your help and advice, guess I'll have to try and muddle round it some other way
I had exactly the same problem.
Did anyone find a solution?

Want some help?
So OBVIOUSLY post informations:
1. Linux distro and version.
2. Kernel version.
3. Gcc version.
4. Binutils version.
5. Arch type (CPU)
Comment:
Whatever list you will ask provide this details.
Install RH9. Power off your box. Inslall Adsl PCI Conexant Hardware. Power on your box. Download rpms files from http://www.data-technics.net/content.php?cat=7 Do what they say there (no more no less). If problems - ask their support (amazing).
You will OBVIOUSLY see that you said to do a stock install of RH9.

thanks anyway for trying to help.
But you did not OBVIOUSLY provide anyone with asked details anyway.
If you have installed an out-of-box kernel you should find the previous accessrunner rpminstall in old files on the Data Technics website.
Make sure that RPM matches your kernel-version.
I've asked Data Technics's support for some common installation problems with RedHat 9 - there is the reply:
1. The accessrunner rpm depends on pppoatm.so plugin which is not included in the RedHat's out-of-box ppp installation. Without this plugin,
accessrunner will not work. This is why you will need to install the
version of ppp with this plugin. The rpm install file for ppp is on my website for your convenience.
2. The out-of-box RedHat uses kernel-2.4.20-8, while latest from RedHat's errata downloads is kernel-2.4.20-24
Accessrunner has been compiled for either, so you will need to make a
decision which one to install:
CnxADSL-TgrATM_k2.4.20-8-1.0.1-2.i386.rpm for kernel-2.4.20-8
accessrunner-2.4.20-24.rh9.0.i386.rpm for kernel-2.4.20-24
3. Initscripts from RedHat install has got no pppoatm (ADSL) handler and has been updated to do so with some other controls - status and/or IP for gateways)
4. linux-atm - do I need to comment this?
Now depending of your needs you have got two options:
1. Upgrade your kernel to 2.4.20-24 (recomended)
2. Remove accessrunner-2.4.20-24.rh9.0.i386.rpm (rpm -e accessrunner-2.4.20-24.rh9.0) and install
CnxADSL-TgrATM_k2.4.20-8-1.0.1-2.i386.rpm instead.
Let me know what your status is.
support<at>data-technics<dot>net
Besides - Ludwig W - you did not ask them for support (which is for free!) shame on you.
It's unbelievable!!!
No where on their web site (or at least no where I can see) does it say you should use CnxADSL-TgrATM_k2.4.20-8-1.0.1-2.i386.rpm if you have a fresh install of RH9.
So the instructions on that web site are only for RH9 with the latest errata kernel via the internet (2.4.24).
Hmmm...clever, since one needs a modem to conect to the internet in the first place.
Ok,putting all that aside, (I do yet another) fresh install of RH9 and install CnxADSL-TgrATM_k2.4.20-8-1.0.1-2.i386.rpm instead of the accessrunner rpm and lo and behold! I get a bout 30 messages in the terminal saying ' Depmod...unresolved symbols in such and such'.
Presumably something has gone wrong, since I've got all these strange messages about depmod? Or could it be that they are supposed to be there and the people at DataTechnics decided not to tell people about all these messages cos they aren't important....even though newbies tend to get freaked out when something unexpected happens?
SHAME on them for not making things clear...even now.
(PS It doesn't take much to write clear instructions that even n00bs can follow)

Yes - it is - look at the bottom of the page. I understand you know how to refresh page "CTRL+F5" if you can not see.

Funny - I know this hardware quite well and as far as I know you need download all needed stuff anyway or ask for drivers your modem supplier. If you have problem with RedHat installation with Conexan PCI ADSL you should ask them not abuse those whose doing something.

No comments - YOU CAN NOT LOAD / INSMOD CnxADSL.o MODULE WITHOUT PARAMS. DEPMOD DOES NOT SEND PARAMS TO MODULE - IT IS DONE BY SCRIPT

I decide to ignore the depmods and carry on with the install.
Next thing after the CnxADSL-TgrATM_k2.4.20-8-1.0.1-2.i386.rpm is to back up certain files (according to the web site).
Ok, back up those files.
Next, one needs to run rpm -Uvh initscripts-7.14-2.cnx.i386.rpm.
And guess what?
I get failed dependencies!!!!
Apparently initscripts-7.14-2.cnx.i386.rpm cannot be installed without accessrunner 2.4.20 which I can't install because I don't have the latest kernel errata from RH and need to use the CnxADSL-TgrATM_k2.4.20-8-1.0.1-2.i386.rpm instead of the accessrunner-2.4.20-24.rh9.0.i386.rpm!!!!!!!!
andser: you are not only unhelpful, but seem to enjoy making other people feel stupid for not being able to do something. If that is how you get your kicks, then so be it, but don't do it on my time, buddy.
I need some advice, not some smart ass trying to make himself look clever.
For a start, no where on that web site does it state that stock red hat users should not use the accessrunner rpm.All it says at the bottom of the page is that old files are available for download. Yeah..right.. that's really clear.
As for your petulant comment about abusing people for 'doing something', please remember that it doesn't take a lot to write clear info about instructions and pointing out the lack thereof is not,in my book, abuse.

Again, totally unhelpful. What am I supposed to do then?
1. Install CnxADSL-TgrATM_k2.4.20-8-1.0.1-2.i386.rpm
2. Copy CnxADSL.o module from /lib/modules/kernel.version.number/kernel/net/atm/ - to let say /tpm folder
3. Uninstall CnxADSL-TgrATM_k2.4.20-8-1.0.1-2.i386.rpm
4. Install accessrunner-2.4.20-24.rh9.0.i386.rpm
5. Copy CnxADSL.o file from /tmp to it's origin location /lib/module/...... and so on
6. run depmod -ae (you will see unresolved symbols)
7. continue installing other scripts
I've just received an e-mail from Data Technics support where:
1. They will release accessrunner.rpm for out-of-box RH9 install and will work with no problems with the rest of their scripts.
2. Contest for "The Best Newbie Tutorial" with troubleshoot elements for Conexant PCI ADSL modem (board type 3805) - price - free Conexant PCI ADSL modem. Entry via e-mail to contest<at>data-technics<dot>net
I'm damn sure I can write a better tutorial than them.
Although they are very very helpfull and extremly prompt at repiying, their web site instructions leave a little to be desired.
I will,if I ever get this thing working, be writting a tutorial for them, rest assured.
