i am new to linux... i recently installed Debian potato 2.2.19 and have a conexant HSF... all of the drivers ive found have been for redhat or mandrake.. the french site has drivers but after downloading and trying to install them, the files after unzipping them do not have a file extension (like .deb, .gz) and so they are not useable for debian.. what i need is hsflinmodem.deb so i can dpkg /floppy/hsflinmodem.deb /dev/modem (i hope thats the command)
problems is..... where can i get the debian package for the conexant HSF 56K PCI modem???? debian does not recognize the sucky RPM format ( iheard RPM stands for Really Poor Management)
anyways..... any help is appreciated
ok, i got alien working and rpm working on my Debian GNU/Linux.... i unzipped the tar file and it revealed an rpm file, i used alien and rpm and with both, there were 2 files it was unable to convert because of ?unreadable characters??? it still made the folders and a few files but hsfconfig and hsfinstall dont work...
i have no network connection, no cd burner, no online access, i can only download while in windows and then read/install them from the mounted windows drive, apt-get update keeps giving mr ign and err with any folders so i have to install each one individually which is a pain...
the next thing i will try is to download both the binary and source rpm from the conexant website and see if i can get them going...
