Concerning A complaint about Devuan
To be SUPER-BRIEF, bad disk crash, the disk was really bad, so I grabbed another disk (yeah... I three more on my desk).
I decided to try Devuan, BUT a few years ago my network card went bad, so I popped another one in, while leaving the old/dead network card still in place. Debian has ALWAYS noticed that I had two network cards and asked which one I should use.
Devuan did not. It kept using my dead card, thus I had no network capability with Devuan.
{sigh}
I installed Debian again.... crap!

You should be able to configure which card should be used. /etc/network/interfaces, I would think.

Why! Have you not removed it immediately, but left it in there for "a few years"! And apparently still haven't! Facepalm!
(rhetorical question, please do not answer)

I tend to hold onto old kit too, but if its dead, ditch it.
If your dislike of Debian concerns systemd, give AntiX a try.
(I've been using it for years, it's great for old kit.)

When first introduced systemd would cause all sorts of problems, (& it's Windows like, taking over everything), which is why so many people dislike it.
(It seems to work OK now, but I still prefer not to use it, if possible - I'm used to the old ways.)

So your complaint is. It does not address your personal problems.
Glad Debian did.
