I saw an article on the front of Distrowatch about a distro called Greenie (
http://distrowatch.org/?newsid=08430), claiming to be a distro with specialized software for writers. Being a writer, I was immediately intrigued, and burned a copy to examine.
It disappointed me. First of all, it's a *buntu. And is its specialized software so impressive that I can ignore that easily? No, not really. The only program that interested me very much was a word processor (I forget the name--sorry, I'm not in Greenie as I write this) that promises to help writers focus with its ease and efficiency, and I imagine I could use it in my customary distro (which is also Debian-based), even if it's not in the Debian repositories (I'll have to check once I remember what it was called). Other installed software of note included some e-book readers (these are mostly what the designers boast of), Gnumeric, Inkscape (not very relevant to the distro's specialty), Abiword, Libreoffice, and...not much else worth mentioning. Certainly nothing you can't find or download easily in any other distro except possibly the e-readers and the specialty word processor. It's simpler for me to just get those things in the Debian repositories if I want them, or possibly use the Ubuntu repositories if necessary. (It's been some time since I downloaded any software designed for or favored by *buntu, but as far as I know, any Debian-based distro installing *buntu software presents no problem, for obvious reasons.)
Anyway, I concluded that it's not worth the trouble of leaving my usual distro.
