Can't Change Resolution (Kubuntu/KDE)

Ok, I was an Ubuntu/Gnome user, and recently started messing with Kubuntu/KDE. I've had this problem for awhile, where my video card (mentioned in my sig) would work just fine with the nvidia-glx drivers, but I'd have to manually add the HorizSync and VertRefresh, as well as the monitors max resolution, 1280x1024. I'd do this in Ubuntu/Gnome and be able to switch to 1280x1024 without a problem after restarting X. Now when I do that, the Display control panel in KDE still won't let me go above 1024x768 (yes, I logged into Admin mode, and yes, I've restarted several times).

What gives? How can I get it to recognize the correct settings?

EDIT: To clarify, no matter what I change the xorg.conf to, the control panel doesn't seem to care.

I had some similar problems. I couldn't change to my resolution till I hacked the xorg.conf file. I had to add my video card driver and the resolutions:
24 bit depth: "1280x1024"
save it and CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE

It should work.

Exclamation Solved: KDE shows correct resolution numbers but does not change screen resolution.

If your resolution is not in correct in kcontrol, type as root :
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

As your normal user :
rm ~/.kde/share/config/kcm*

unfortunately you will need to reconfigure in kcontrol your Wallpaper and some other small things.

D:

I'm having a similar and very, VERY annoying issue.

I'm running on Kubuntu (Fiesty), and one day my screen resolution set itself to 640x840. It won't let me change it back either, and now everything is very small. Incredibly difficult to work with. It was running fine earlier.

Pretty much, I'm asking what to do after the step in the message above thi one. I'm a really big Linux newb, so I'm pretty lost. D:

type <ctr+F6>

type rm ~/.kde/share/config/kcm*<enter>
type sudo reboot

in kde:
type <alt+f2>, kcontrol<enter>
choose and apply the new resolution

if you want to redefine your Wallpaper configuration, this is a good time.

I know.
It won't let me change the resolution from there.
That max it will goes is 640x480, even though it was higher a couple of days ago. D:

I tried krandrtray and it changed my resolution but the font stayed like it was so the display was messed up still... I have a nVidia 8500GT card and am running into this problem.

Exclamation horiz/vert sync rates might be wrong

I was having this same problem - can't change to any resolution higher than 1024x768 even though you have the correct resolutions defined in xorg.conf, kde will not show these resolutions, and you cannot pick them using the Contol Center or krandrtray.

You need to Google the Technical Specifications for your specific montior and ensure that your Horizontal and Vertical sync/refresh rates have been defined correctly in xorg.conf.

See my xorg.conf below
