Hi, I'm currently using RedHat 7.1
I'd like to use ext3 and it seems that the package versions neccessary to use it are not available for 7.1
The only place that they offer the latest kernel and e2fsprogs packages is in the Rawhide version.
What is Rawhide? Are the packages in Rawhide useable with 7.1, or does it use a newer glibc or something requiring serious upgrading?
I have looked into using RH 7.2 rpms. The versions are too old. I need newer kernel and e2fstools packages then 7.2 has available. Only Rawhide has the newest versions that I need available. I am afraid that they may be compiled with a newer version of glibc, though. If this is so, I do not know how to accomodate this. If I installed the newer glibc, all the old stuff might break.
Also, I'm interested to know if rawhide is considered stable, or development. Is it safe to use? If so, in a critical application, even?
well, you can naturally upgrade the kernel in the normal way to sort that one out.... but i really can't understand how rh72 rpms can't sort the other out.. rh72 supports ext3... not calling you a liar, but that does seem strange. No stranger than RPM's can be at times tho... i do know for a fact that the mandrake rpm's for 8.1 are definitely suitable as i upgraded to ext3 form ext2 using them, but that was on a mandrake system in the first place and it's never really a good idea to start mixing distro versions if you can avoid it.
