Can I install Slackware through Knoppix?
 

I've heard that Gentoo can be installed through Knoppix and I've been wondering if this hold true for Slackware as well. The reason I want to do this is because I love Slackware but it has had some detection problems, problems that Knoppix seems to correct, and I wanted to merge benefits from both.

Ok, not going to work, well not the way you want it.

Knoppix has great auto detection. . . but when you boot into slackware after installation, slackware begins it's hardware detection (which it really does not have any).

Gentoo does not get Knoppix's autodetected system settings when you install from Knoppix.

When you install Gentoo through Knoppix, all you are doing is using the Knoppix CD to format, and unpack a base source Gentoo system on your hard drive. Then you chroot (change your root directory) into the drive and start compiling the base system (kernel, make, gcc, protage, etc...). Then you reboot into your Gentoo installation (not the Knoppix CD) and continue to compile your system.

So Knoppix is only used as a tool for prepairing a gentoo install.

Slackware is very different from Gentoo.. . I don't think you can use Knoppix to install Slackware... but if you really wanted to do it, there are ways to do anything with linux.

I suggest you read a bit more about Linux in general... that's the kernel I am talking about.
