Can't change resolution of linux console.

hi

I have 2.2.21 kernel and i've recompiled it with the support for changing the resolution of linux console. In lilo.conf i entered vga = 773 in the linux boot section and leaft vga = normal at the global lilo.conf section. Then typed lilo, rebooted, but get blank screen although linux is actually booting, but nothing shows up on the screen. Does any one know what might be the problem? May be kernels 2.2.x do not let u select resolution?

thanks in advance
