Best server distro for Mud + Newbie.

Hi folks,

I'm hoping to set up a Mud on an old PC I have kicking around at home just so I can play with some ideas I have floating around. Can anyone suggest a good distro to run as a Mud server?

Hadware spec : Dell PIII500, 256 Ram, 40Gb Hdd, GeForce 4MX video, Ethernet and adaptec SCSI controller.

No real requirement for fancy GUI's etc. Command line in a terminal window is fine. I know a bit of Solaris 7 ( System V ) stuff from a few years back.

Slack looks good but seems to be a harder install. Gentoo, Mandrake and Suse look good for newbies but would prolly have too much fluff.

Can anyone say if I'm going the right way or not?
