Best Live Eval/Demo for laptop?

Hi,
Sorry about a "best" question.

I have recently recieved a new Gateway 200 notebook: a Centrino with 1Gb RAM from my employer. It has Windows XP professional with reduced privilages.
Some of our customers are interested in Microsoft alternatives: eg OpenOffice ( I give this sometimes out and have a basic training course on how to get started with it)
Our IT department (Mac/Windows) users are very strict, and would not give me a dual-boot laptop for Linux, but did give me permission to run Live Evaluations for those customers/ small firms asking about Linux. It is against compant policy to install anything and grounds for dismissal.

Since I can use RAM as am not technically installing software, what is the "best", safest (not to break my laptop)? I was able to get 1GB RAM for it.
I am afraid of doing somethin to Windows XP Pro, not having sytem privalages to fix it, and then very screwed.
I just tested SuSE live Eval on home box: worked well though a little slow, had internet and printing. I understand that this writes something on your harddrive so that worries me.

I need a good live Eval, that will give me net and print functions (can I get access to C: also???)
Something I can use personally as well as demo to customers looking to cut costs. I have OpenOffice on Windows so that is not so necessary on the Linux live.

Thanks,

Try Knoppix or the Slackware-Live Cd - I lean towards the Slackware-Live, I use it and have always found it to be fast.

Can't seem to get the Slackware live cd to work.
It boots, the cd grings, and I get a blank screen with blinking cursor.
The SuSE CD does work though, but it is too much.

I would also suggest Knoppix or Slackware-Live (which is now called Slax).

I have the best luck with Slax myself.

The SuSE Live eval didn't work for me either. It's almost like it's a bunged up ISO.

Oh well :)

How old is your Slackware Live CD? DId you download it within the last 2 weeks? If you haven't you should. They changed a few things that made it work on my laptop (and it didn't use to).

Peace, :)

I got Slax to boot up to kernel panic. Seems I had earlier burned it incorrectly with the Roxio. I am used to Neroburn.
Damn Small Linux also boots fine.
So I got 2 working so far Damn Small and SuSE.
SuSE is something I can show clients and the damn small is kinda neat for me to play around with.

Thanks for the suggest I shall try Knoppix next.

Peace!

Slax has issues with 1GB RAM

Thanks for that link.
I got slax working on the latop:
boot SLAX and used
slax mem=800M

I like the slax better than SuSE live and dman small was too little.
With slax I feel like I am actually running Linux though from RAM.
I wish there was some way to write to ntfs on my c-fat abd I have to still figure the wi-fi out.
