Best Distro for Replacing Windows Server
 

What I am looking to do replace my windows 2003 server with Linux server. I been using couple linux for basic web, sql, and ftp as a secondary server. Now I would like to do away with my Windows server and want a Linux server to Handle Multiple Web site, SQL, File server, Handle Windows Logins and Mail Server. What would you all suggest I use?

Use whatever you want, you will still use apache for web services, postfix, sendmail, qmail or whatever for smtp, samba for file sharing/domain controller. These aren't tied to one particular distro

So you wouldnt recommend any a paticular one? What do you think about Mandrake 10.2 Limited Edition 2005 ?

Although I agree with phil, these programs aren't tied to one distro, I would recommend Fedora for a beginning user, and Gentoo or Slack for a more experienced user. Gentoo provides some greater control over the compile options and such. makes for better optimizations while running the above services. I haven't used Mandrake at all, but it should work fine. Whatever you're comfortable with.

I would suggest Slackware if you're used to working with the CLI, a very powerful distro that is very popular in the linux server market. If you want something with a graphical front end for configuration, and 'just works', try Suse 9.3 Professional (now free for download)
