This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Anyone know how to convert the new Austrumi 1.4 from Latvian to English desktop.
The clear path on the older 1.3 Austrumi (with Enlightenment is not to be found
on the new version 1.4?
Austrumi was a great fast little distro but I need the english desktop, not just the english selection of Firefox.
Back to the drawing boards.
The message you referred to was correct for the older versions of Austrumi. Ver 1.4 seems to be different. I'll be making another attempt tonight to find the english desktop. If no luck, then it's time to continue playing by trying another distro from the Linux Format cover disks. Next up might be Fedora Core Live.
Thanks for your efforts.
OK, remember that in that thread, I couldn't get that to work either. Instead, right click on the desktop and scroll down the menu, the options Latvia and English pop out. I have a late version of Austrumi as well.
Austrumi Version 1.4 did indeed provide a path to it's English desktop. Follow the new pull down menus to Systemic (Latvian spelling of the word), look at the new breakout selections, find the very tiny flag symbols to select English (American flag). Click on the flag. This will bring you to three selections, one of which is the British flag. This entire path is different from the previous versions of Austrumi, so beware. The updated Firefox looks good even with the blue/grey background.
Ok-thanks, I just downloaded the most current one and had the same problem. How did you get on the internet with it? I have ethernet but it doesn't go online.
If you use wifi or ethernet, use dhcp and dhcpcd for connection to ISP using set-top box on cable or DSL telephone connection.
For those using dialup. You need external modem. Use ppconfig to set up serial port, external modem and dial to your ISP telephone number and your account name using password.
After connecting to your ISP account, then launch Firefox to use home(or Yahoo portal).
