Apache + PHP + MYsql distro
I'm after a distro that has apache + php + mysql all compiled together so they work fine and dandy.
I've toyed around for several weeks with redhat 7.1 but to no avail. Is there a distro which comes with all these fully functioning running and ready to go ??? the software I want to install is called PHP Helpdesk and the documentation is at http://phphelpdesk.sourceforge.net It says all it requires is the above software but I cannot get it to work on many clean installs of the server version of RH 7.1 which i think doesnt come with Mysql. I've tried installing mysql but have had various issues with it, so I'm just after a simple life... I'd be very grateful if anyone has a distro to suit me :D Cheers Andy go on Jamie, answer me, u know u wanna ;) |
Redhat 7 comes with all of these. You may need to do a custom install.
for mysql, include the datadumper, perl and dbi |
I'm pretty sure any version of redhat comes with all the components. It doesn't, however, make it easy to set them up. I would highly recommend that you try Mandrake 8.1. Not only does it have a very easy install, if you select apache, php, and mysql, they will all be installed and working the first time you boot up. I don't know how you can beat that. If you want to stick with RedHat, you might want to try something I found on Freshmeat called Apache Toolbox. It is a script file that will download, compile , and configure apache, php, and mysql. As long as you don't pick any strange modules, it works great. It does help if you have a fast connection since it will probably download a few things.

ok cheers, I'm downloading mandrake as I type ....
Maybe redhat will do this but I didnt realise you had to select custom packages, the default server install installed PHP with no MYsql support etc which is a nightmare. hopefully Mandrake will sort me out ! thanks everyone :) andy |
php, mysql, apache
Im running Red Hat 7.2 and have all 3 working just fine. You do have to do a custom install and select the packages you want installed but after that it just works!
