Unhappy Adding second cpu to RH 7.2

I have just added a second 2.4 Ghz Xeon cpu to my machine (and yes they are matched). I start up Redhat 7.2 using the SMP for multiple processors.

When it comes up, Linux sees 4 cpus rather than 2. I can submit jobs and fill all four individually but I know this is slow. top shows jobs will go to one of the four but not to 2 or the four.

I want to have two cpus available at 2.4 GHz, not 4 cpus at 1.2 GHz (at best).

Any ideas?

I found out that the BIOS was hyperthreading. Once I turned this off. it worked as expected.

Hope this helps others.
