586 reading as 686 ?

Hi, i noticed that when i boot into Mandrake and go into the control center it reads as 686 though as far as i know Mandrake is 586.
Is it just saying this because of a glitch in the system or saying it because of the spec of my system/hardware ?

Mandrake's binaries are compiled so that they can work on a i586 cpu. Most others are compiled fot i386. This is for backwards compatibility.

Its saying your SYSTEM is i686. A computer can read binaries that are older, but not newer. So a i586 machine couldn't read an i686 binary, but your new machine, can read a 586 binary just fine.
