3 Qs - which Linux Distrib would be good for a print server....
#1 I'm looking to install Linux on my Pentium 166mhz system - to be my print server for 3+ printers connected via USB 1.1, and PPT (2 of them). It has a 2gb hdd and not alot of memory (128mb about) - I've tried FreeBSD, but ugh, setting it up is a pain, so I'm asking you guys (who read this topic) which Linux distrib would be a good :) I'm not looking deep into a GUI based (X11) system, as it won't have a monitor nor any thing else.. just ssh..
#2 Also, i'm looking for compatability with the following printers: epson c60 via usb hp psc series via usb possibly other usb printers connected to a usb hub (1.1) a dotmatrix receipt printer (parallel on ppt2) a dotmatrix panasonic printer (parallel on ppt1) if I must, I'll install X11, but that begins to limit disk space.. I know CUPS is great, so maybe something with cups? #3 a PDF generator/maker - free? something that can control how the PDF is created - ZIP compressed not JPEG compression, or @ 600dpi etc? |
