Yum update

I am having problems with yum update with Fedora 15. It appears to get files ok and asks me to accept update. I say y for yes. The update goes through its process for some time then the screen locks up with white and green stripes. The keyboard also locks up. When I reboot the machine it starts to boot up but then the screen turns off, the keyboard locks up and nothing. I've had to do a clean re-install to be able to get here. Any ideas on what causes this and how I can fix this?

right now you have a new install from the dvd
so what is your hardware
that "stripe" issue sounds like an ATI 3d card ? but might not be .

also keep in mind that fedora is a Research and Development FAST-TESTING distro
updates can and WILL FUBAR an install sometimes .

also fedora 15 needs even MORE system resources than 14 or 13 did ,and will not run well on 3 to 5+ year old computers .

as to that busted update ( originally) how and what 3d driver did you install if any ?
kernel updates can cause "issues" if you used a driver from nvidia or ati's web sites and NOT the one in the fedora repos .
