Xorg translucency makes kde menus hard to see
Hi, I set up the X.org composite extension yesterday and was happy with how everything worked when I got KDE to work with transparent windows and drop shadows (which was surprisingly easy). However, after I disabled the special effects on all the menus, I found that it was still very difficult to see the menu contents because it's "translucent". Is there any way I can change the opacity of the menus?
Thanks in advance. |
In the KDE control center, under the "Appearance & Themes > Style > effects" tab, there are controls for menu translucency, including a slider for opacity. It's activated when you set "menu effect" to translucent. If you want to only have translucency without other effects, I think you have to disable all the other effects individually. At least that's what I do.
I personally find that anything less than 85-90% opaque is annoyingly hard to read when the menus overlap text. I suppose it depends on the menu font though. |
That's not exactly my problem. Because I have the X.org composite extension and translucency enabled in KDE, the menus for some reason seem to be translucent. I've tried going into Appearance & Themes > style > effect and disabling all the effects but the menus are still translucent.

Well, sorry then. That's the only place I know for controlling the translucency of menus. It works for me, but then I don't use many fancy effects on my desktop.

Try right clicking on the title bar. You can then access, Opacity and Configure window behavior. I'v set my translucency setting to.
Active windows off (you can change opacity with a right click on title bar) Inactive windows on 75% Moving windows off Dock windows on 75% Shadows off Effects off. Works well for me. hope it helps. |
