Question Xine - Autodetect CD/DVD drive?

Excuse my post if it is short, but I just took my meds and am a bit sleepy.

I am wondering if there is a way to have Xine search connected devices when it starts up in order to detect any connected CD/DVD drives. More specifically, I am a bit flustered by the fact that every time I plug in my USB DVD writer, it get one of several device id's. The device id seems to vary between /dev/sg0-4 and /dev/scd0-4, so that every time I wish to watch a DVD movie, I need to check the "dmesg" command output to find where my DVD drive is and then configure Xine to use that device. Sometimes it takes several tries.

So, hopefully there is some type of work-around for this.

I am on Fedora Cord 5 using KDE desktop, if that helps.

Thank You,

FOrtezza

I've never seen any way to set xine to autodetect, but it should be pretty easy to solve this problem. You can set up a udev rule so that your dvd drive has a stable device alias no matter what the actual device is.

See here for info on what udev is and how to set up such a rule:
