xfontsel font configuration

I have installed the dejavu fonts from Debian repository.
Now when looking via xfontsel, it says I only have size 17 available.
I want to use the font for my xterm, but size 17 is too big.
However in OpenOffice I can use various sizes of the font.
Why is it so?
Thanks..
m
