xfce4 Pesky keyboard-shortcut problem with ctrl-f6
In Xubuntu 14.04 (xfce4): Ctrl-F6 brings up a file-manager menu (at right of screen). No matter what I do I can't clear that pesky key binding. I don't remember this being a problem before 14.04.
I have attempted to remove all references to file manager (except for super-f) in:
* settings editor: xfce4-keyboard-shortcuts
* Window Manager: keyboard tab
* ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-keyboard-shortcuts.xml, followed by killall xfconfd.
But I can't get rid of that darn ctrl-f6 binding.
My doomsday plan is to blow xubuntu away and install lxle instead, but that will cost mucho environment reconstruction.
It seems trivial but it interferes with an essential keyboard shortcut in my IDE which is what I use all hours of the day.
I have Googled a lot. (This forum refuses to search for "ctrl-f6" or "f6", so my answer may be already here but unfindable.)
If I create a new user and log in as that user, ctrl-f6 no longer brings up a file-manager menu. However, it still gets swallowed -- does not get handled by the app whose window I'm in. The behavior reminds me of using a remote desktop where the client grabbed keystrokes meant for the server (or having caps-lock on in emacs), but just with respect to that one key chord (so far).
"swallowed" should be "consumed"--I must have wandered into the wrong semantic field. Is it more familiar that way? (It's an event-handler term.)
I would like to oblige, but I'm not sure how to get a screenshot of a non-action. In other words, nothing happens when on other machines/OS versions something would happen: in my IDE a refactoring menu would pop up. f6 by itself in the IDE pops-up its expected menu; ctrl-f6 does not pop up its menu. I can bring up the desired menu with mouse/tool-dialog actions, and on the tool-dialog it says the keyboard assignment is ctrl-f6, but that keychord does nothing. It's still possible that it's a transient failure in the IDE. (I'll try with a newer version.)
