XFCE Xubuntu (12.04) Keyboard music controls don't work when player unfocused

I have a nice Cherry keyboard with volume and prev/playpause/fwd buttons. Volume works universally but the track control buttons only work when I have a music player in focus. I want them to work properly from any window. I don't need an informational pop-up. Is there a solution on XFCE?

...umm, I guess that's somewhat normal. Only stuff with focus would/should react to mouse/keyboard. No focus, no reaction, period.

I doubt if there's a way around it...
But, I just accepted that behaviour...

BTW - congrats on the Cherry keys! Always wanted one for the card reader. My IBM does'nt have that. But, I'd never part with mine...
