X11 does not detect multiple screens

Hi,

I just installed Debian Jessie on my workstation, but I have several problems running X11.

I use two screen (different resolutions) and just want to run my desktop across both, nothing fancy. X11 does not detect them by itself, and my old xorg.conf causes a segfault. When I run Xorg -configure, it ends with an error:
Code:

Number of created screens does not match the number of devices
Debian Jessie from 2013-12-14, xorg 7.7+4. I have a Matrox G550 which usually works fine in Xinerama mode. According to the log, the driver is detected correctly by X11.

I googled around, but couldn't find anything that helps; do you have any hints about search terms? Do you need any other information from me?

How can I get X11 running on both screens?

(See here for another problem I have.)

Thanks!

Cheers,
yooden

type "xrandr" in a terminal and post the output here.

ok, it indeed does not detect your second screen.

please see my latest post in your other thread.

(Holidays and other stuff prevented a prompt response.)

As you adviced, I switched back to Wheezy, but I see exactly the same problem.

Meanwhile, I found Arandr, which is very useful on my notebook, but (as the xrandr output indicates) fails to detect the second port.

Is there another way to get closer to a solution?

i guess this problem is seperate from your other thread...
i just found this:
http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/4817
it's really old and probably contains outdated info and some of it can probably be done with a simple gui these days, but then so is your graphic card.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg
arch wiki often has precious information even for non-arch users!

i didn't really delve into either of those 2 topics, but maybe you will.

Good links, esp. the one to the ArchWiki, thanks!

I tried to get the Matrox running with a hand-woven config, but that wouldn't get rid of the slowness (see other thread). So at the moment I try to get rid of both problems with a new GCA.
