Hey guys, sorry if this post isn't in the right forum, I don't know where else to place this.

I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 and I'm trying to install ATI drivers for my ATI Radeon x1650 Pro. I went about method 2 on: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu...allation_Guide but when I rebooted after the aticonfig command, X would just come up black after the Ubuntu loading screen. Also my entire computer becomes unresponsive (can't even turn on caps lock or open the cd tray). But I can boot into recovery mode.

Does anyone know what I should do to get X back working and to finally get these ATI drivers to work? I tried just installing the fglrx driver through synaptic but that didn't give me any 3D Acceleration and I just ran the installation script by itself without creating any packages and that didn't work either (no 3D acceleration also).

I appreciate any input guys!

edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file

change fglrx to radeon that should get you back into the system with a functional GUI after a reboot.

Then you need to figure out why it's not working.. check the Xorg log files for errors

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep EE

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old | grep EE
