X really slow, regardless of window manager?

Recently, I have installed Slackware. I selected KDE, however this also happens on other window managers (anyone know how to change window managers without reinstalling from scratch?) Whenever I change the screen in any way, open a window, scroll a window, anything, the screen goes stripy. Alternately, one stripe is the updated content, the other stripe is what was there previously, and so on. Clicking elsewhere and back again seems to remedy this (but quickly gets annoying.)

As well as this, when I turn off desktop effects in KDE, it somewhat resembles how it does with other window managers, and the screen is completely US. Is this an incompatibility with my graphics card, an error in configuration, or what, and what can I do to fix the situation?

FIrst, you can change the default windowmanager/DE in Slackware with the xwmconfig command. No need to reinstall.

Second, can you show us your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file?

The nouveau, while sufficient for many people, may not support your chipset completely. Have you tried the proprietary nvidia driver?

The NV4C chip (Geforce 6150, integrated chip) has AFAIK issues with the nouveau-drivers. As adamk75 suggested, try the proprietary drivers, they should work.

Sidenote: If you want to post code, log files or the output of a program please use code-tags instead of quote-tags, that makes your posts much more readable.
