I started playing around with different window managers again a week ago, and I fell back on fluxbox. And since I got used to the transparency in xfwm4 and compiz, I wanted the same thing in fluxbox. I have been trying to use xcompmgr with the simple "xcompmgr -c" command. All the effects look good, but there are some issues that I have come across.
First, when I reduce the size of a window, the image of the larger window is left behind. The after image only goes away once I move the window in an eraser-like motion to wipe it off the screen. When I increase the size of a window, the title bar increases along with the drop shadow, but the contents of the window do not redraw until I move the window.
I run an old ATI radeon 7500 aiw card on my home computer on a Fedora 12 install, but I have seen the same results on one of my workstations at the office running an nVidia Quadro FX card. So, I figured it is more likely a configuration conflict between xcompmgr and my fluxbox settings.
If anyone has any suggestions of things I might try, I would appreciate it. Transparency is an evil thing to get addicted to.
So, it just so happens that the particular style I was using in Fluxbox was related to my issue. I was using one of the zimek styles, and when I was playing around with other styles available I noticed the resizing worked fine. So, I changed styles for now. I haven't identified what about the style disagreed with xcompmgr, but I noticed that the bora styles had the same problem. Both styles use rounded corners, but that is the only obvious similarity I see at the moment.
