Why linux64 needs to be executed on GNOME terminal but not on KDE?

Hi All,

I have little knowledge on desktop manager in linux. I had installed OpenSuSE 12.3 with KDE & GNOME 64 bit. I have faced few limitation in running some commands(like:zypper) on GNOME terminal. But those commands run successfully on KDE 64 bit terminal. I had to execute linux64 on GNOME to run other commands successfully.

Is it required to execute all 64 bit applications from GNOME terminal after executing 'linux64'?

It will be great help if anybody give some idea of running 64bit application on GNOME & KDE?

Regards,

I am guessing that you installed the 32 bit opensuse12.3 and the 32 bit kde4
on a 64 bit computer
then some how installed the 64 bit Gnome3 , witch changed most of the os to 64 bit , but left kde 32 bit

never herd of "linux64"

now "setarch" on building code , yes
