Cool which command is resposible for logoff action though desktop?

Dear friends,
My Panel is crashed and I dont want to use the panel.My problem is with the logging of from dektop. There is no direct access to control. Can anyone tell me which command is resposible for logout operation. I can use thhat through terminal window or create a launcher
To be more precise....I need the script name or command name which helsp user logout from gnome. I am using redhat8.0

I am using redhat8.0
It is very difficult to help you because you are using such an extremely old distro. A great deal has changed in the meantime.

If I remember right - you can exit to text mode (ctrl-alt-backspace), then enter "exit" to logout of RHL.

But you are strongly encouraged to update your distribution. The latest RHL is RH16 which is called fedora 7. Others swear by CentOS as a RHEL by another name.

Thanks for the suggestion...also I did one more thing...going to user's home directory and editing the default desktop panel file. The value was edge-right for the panel over there as I moved the panel from bottom to right vertically. I changed the value to edge-bottom. After loggin in to the desktop the panel was at the bottom and i ddint got any crash messages.
