What is the best distro for a web developer?
Hi,
I have used a few distro's in the past but only for a few months at a time. I would like to use linux more and was wondering what the best distro is for a web developer. any advise would be grateful :) Thanks |
If you say your new to Linux I would say K|X|Ubuntu?
or one of the ubuntu remixes. Whats the specs of your pc/lappy? I say Ubuntu cause it's easy and there are many many apps available |

Typical advice is the use anything in the top ten on the "hit list" at http://distrowatch.com PS: For some mainstream distros--eg Mepis and Slackware, make that the top 15. Exception: I do not recommend Arch or Slackware for beginners. |
Hi linus72
i have used ubuntu b4 so thats great :D. but which mix is best? my laptop spec is 1.83 intel centrino duo 4GB ram DDR2 60GB HDD xp Thanks |
The major difference between *buntu mixes is the desktop environment (KDE - Kubuntu, Gnome - Ubuntu, Xfce - Xubuntu, etc.), Which one do you feel most comfortable with?
On the other hand, it doesn't even matter as you can install eg. Ubuntu and then install additional desktop environments so that you can choose which one you run every time you log in. If you have a decent computer, you'll most likely like Gnome or KDE, but I'm just guessing here. It's best for you to try them out. You could download live CDs for each of them to check which one is most appealing to you. |
