wdm install

I recently heard about a desktop manager called wdm that's light like xdm but a little nicer, it's called wdm. The only option seemed to be downloading and compiling the source. The INSTALL file it came with said that a ./configure, make, make install should work and to edit inittab to use wdm. well, it compiled and installed fine, but when i try to run 'wdm' or 'wdm -nodaemon' from multiuser, it just sits there. x doesn't start up, nothing. The requirements say wdm needs: XFree86 installed, WindowMaker >= 0.70.0, autoconf => 2.53, and libXft or libXft2. I've got all that(it compiled fine), but I'm running xorg. i figure it should work anyway though. can anybody help me get this running?
