Red face Virsh/Virt-Manager/Virt-Install broken after upgrade to Xubuntu 17.10

Good day

I used the automated upgrade to upgrade to Xubuntu 17.10; our office environment is Microsoft focused so I need virt-manager, virsh etc...

However after the upgrade I keep on getting the same error whether I use virt-manager or virt-install to recreate my VM's (which were broken after upgrading to 17.10).

When I run this command for instance :
Code:
virt-install --name win8.1 --memory 8096 --disk /var/lib/libvirt/images/win81.qcow2 --import
I get this error message:
ERROR '_OsVariant' object has no attribute 'supports_virtiorng'
I am about to backup and reformat to reinstall 16.04 or 16.10 simply because of this error.

Just a short note that your idea of reinstalling 16.10 wouldn't be a good one due to it now being end-of-life.

Personally, I'm surprised you're running 17.10 in an office environment if you have no specialised need for it. LTS (long-term support) versions such as 16.04 and the forthcoming 18.04 would seem to be a more natural choice.

You are correct -- what happened was; what started of as an experiment ended up being the system on my laptop -- worked great, until this one hiccup. For now I'll go to Xubuntu 16.04
