updating ubuntu fried my computer
 

hi everyone
i updated to ubuntu 13.10 a few days ago and then couldnt get online it showed the hardware being there and all but wouldnt connect so i looked online for something to help fix it but nothing i did worked then 5 days later it completely broke down, it wouldnt load anything at all. i got it to the command line and it wouldnt read anything, no usb, dvd rom, wireless, or nic card at all. i tryed to reinstall ubuntu but the bios dont even see the dvd rom or usb any ideas on whats wrong other then its completely fried???

- what packages were updated?
- how do you "get on line" (Cable, xDSL, Wireless, tethering, other?) and what have you actually tried (detailed account and output please)?
- what does '(lspci; lsusb; dmesg)|tee /tmp/output.txt' return when you boot the machine? (Attach /tmp/output.txt as plain text file?)
- any proprietary drivers necessary?

Can you boot from some external media, like SystemRescueCD [USB stick] and confirm your hardware is not working.

no i cant boot from anything. i got into terminal once and did lspci and it showed all the USB ports, dvd-rom, and other hardware but when i try to but it from usb or dvd-rom to reinstall ubuntu 13.04(the last one that worked right) bios doesnt show it having any dvd-rom or USB ports to use. i dont know what all was updated i just did a os update to 13.10 and this happened after 5 days. the only things i did when it was working was try eth0 up and iwan0 up then both down and adding static ips but nothing would work so i turned them off and removed the static ips then 2 days later the system froze completely.

if the bios doesn't see the devices, then it sounds like you have hardware issues that are unrelated to your OS. Can you run some sort of self test in the bios?

I agree with evo2, it is highly unlikely that updating Ubuntu broke your computer. It is much more liekly that your computer has developed a hardware issue which it would have developed regrdless of what OS was installed.
