unknown printer
I have installed an ubuntu from scratch on my desktop computer. This morning, I tried to print a document to my wireless printer. When I open the printer setup, I see two printers on the list. I do not recognize the second printer on the list. It has some funky name on it. And when I click on it to retrieve information, it says refuse connections. A few minutes later, the printer disappeared.
What could be happening here ? I have not used my desktop for a week or two. It has been powered down most of the time. I would like to know why I was seeing a second printer showing up and then minutes later disappeared. Is it possible I got hacked ? Thanks in advance! PS. My computer is Ubuntu 15.04. |
Was it a network printer by chance? CUPS has probably just detected the printer automatically. IIRC, it will show up in /etc/cups/printers.conf, along with the existing configuration.
It is the CUPS backends that are responsible for this dynamic detection Code:
