undefined symbol when executing nautilus

Hi,

I updated my Ubuntu 9.10 and then all my desktop icons disappeared and I cant start nautilus.

Linux eduardo-laptop 2.6.31-22-generic #73-Ubuntu SMP Fri Feb 11 19:18:05 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I tried to find something related, but no solution was found.

This error seems to occurs with opensuse too.
http://forums.opensuse.org/english/g...any-icons.html

Error:
(nautilus:4164): Eel-CRITICAL **: eel_preferences_get_boolean: assertion `preferences_is_initialized ()' failed
nautilus: symbol lookup error: nautilus: undefined symbol: g_reload_user_special_dirs_cache

I tried to remove nautilus, and then I can't even install again ://
eduardo@eduardo-laptop:/usr/local$ sudo apt-get install nautilus
Lendo listas de pacotes... Pronto

Lendo informação de estado... Pronto
O pacote nautilus não está disponível, mas é referenciado por outro pacote.
Isto pode significar que o pacote está faltando, ficou obsoleto ou
está disponível somente a partir de outra fonte
No entanto, os pacotes a seguir o substituem:
libgnome2-common
E: O pacote nautilus não tem candidato para instalação
eduardo@eduardo-laptop:/usr/local$

Anyone knows how to solve that??

ps: Sorry for my english... xD

Hello,

Try installing libgnome2-common first, then try to install nautilus. Also, please translate the output next time.

Cheers,

Josh

No install candidate → → Ubuntu 9.10 has been unsupported for some time.
And was moved to "old-releases".

Please replace the URLs in /etc/apt/sources.list with
http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/
And then : sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install nautilus

..

Updating to a more recent version of Ubuntu is a good thing.

If the problem persists, try starting Nautilus from a command line (the command is "nautilus'), then post the output to the terminal if the program fails to load.

Hi frankbell,

I was getting some error messages while updating... (I can't remember exactly).

I'm burning a 11.04 image rigth now... :P
I'll solve this problem by installing ubuntu again. I'm not an advanced user, so this solution will be faster to me. xD

Thanks for all responses.
