Unhappy Unable to kill packagekitid on opensuse 11.4 KDE desktop

I am not able to update my system anymore with kpackagekit (and I don't know why).
When I try to do it via the bash, and zypper, sometimes I get an error message saying that packagekit is trying to do the same thing, so has locked the database (or whatever).

When I try to kill packagekitid, either I'm not able to do it, or the process starts again on its own ...

Please either help me to:
1- disable, kill and destroy kpackagekit, or
2- make it work again ...

Thanks for all the help you can provide !!!

Look at the process list. The program to kill has "smarticon" in its name.
