I originally set the COLUMNS value to 105 from 80 in gconf-editor (apps/gnome-terminal/profile/default/default_size_rows) a long time ago.
After the recent update (jeez this is sound like windows already...), no matter how I set $COLUMNS, I am stuck with a width of 80 whenever I run gnome-terminal.
I have set $COLUMNS to 105

user@asus64:~$ COLUMNS=105
user@asus64:~$ echo $COLUMNS
105
But no go.
Very annoying, please help
