Ubuntu unity and top of toolbar not fitting to my display

I have recently installed Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS but cannot for the life of me get the the top toolbar and sidebar to fit into my screen.

Any help will be much appreciated!

Did this work in a previous version of Ubuntu or another distro?

Sometimes I get an odd new combination of display settings that my monitor has never handled before, and have to use the buttons on it to manually move and reshape my screen.

I have used different versions of Ubuntu before but to my knowledge it has only happend a few times. The difference this time is I'm not using a monitor but rather a TV connected through HDMI from the GPU on my desktop.

I have tried different options using the remote for the TV but no progress.

Usually when I get those kinds of issues with TVs and projectors I end up messing with different resolutions and sync rates manually until I get something that works. Some devices only take certain input resolutions.

Are there any configurations, even if generated by default, from older Ubuntus or Windows that worked?
