Ubuntu Mate sounds in Debian with Mate

using ubuntu mate, there are some cool sounds (the ubuntu theme) when using the brisk menu. i want to get those same sounds on debian with mate. i have copied over the ubuntu theme directory from /usr/share/sounds to debian and applied it in the mate control panel, but the same sounds in ubuntu dont play in debian

do i need an app to play those audio files? when i try to just play one of those .ogg files there is no app to do that, but other sounds do play. also the speaker test doesnt work

am i missing an audio player and if so, will alsa do the trick or something else

i'm running debian testing

Alsa is a mixer, not a player.

What media player(s) do you have installed, or, to put it another way, do any media players show on the menu?

ahhh i have no players installed, but other sounds do play, including sounds in the Sounds applet in Control Center (except the above mentioned test speakers sounds)

what player do you recommend?

no matter what player i install, nothing works. there has to be something that is in stalled or configured in ubuntu mate that isn't with a vanilla install of mate on debian, just cant seem to figure it out. im pretty sure that when i install other distros with mate, this works, just cant get it to work on debian

so i installed cinnamon along side of mate, logged into cinnamon, logged out and back into mate and lo and behold the sounds on the brisk menu played like they do on ubuntu mate, so there must be some gnome or gtk thing that is installed with cinnamon that is not on vanilla mate, not sure if im gonna try to figure that one out or not, but as far as im concerned, issue resolved
